CALL FOR ABSTRACTS / CALL FOR EXHIBITION for the 3rd European Symposium on Friction, Wear and Wear Protection 6 – 8 May 2014 in Karlsruhe, Germany The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 9 December 2013! Dear Sirs, Conservation of energy and resources is one of the biggest challenges for society and industry. Modern tribology is one of the main cornerstones of reducing carbon emissions. However, friction and wear protection lacks of a systematic approach based on elemental mechanisms from materials science, physics and chemistry; materials and technologies needed in the near future may not be a simple extension of one which is in our hand now. Following the successful 2008 and 2011 symposium the 2014 conference belongs to a series of conferences held once every three years under the auspices of the technical committee "Materials aspects of tribology and machining" of the German Materials Society, DGM. The scope of the symposium covers all classes of materials, machining, production and lubrication technologies and targets at practitioners from industry as well as engineers and scientists. The organisers invite prospective authors to submit an abstract for lectures or posters relating to the conference topics. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 9 December 2013! Conference Topics: A: Wear resistant materials and coatings B: Friction materials and linings (brakes, clutches) C: Ultra-low friction materials and coatings D: Modelling and computer simulation E: Material-lubricant interactions and tribochemical effects F: Ceramics G: Polymers and PMCs H: Surface modifications I: Novel instrumentation and testing K: Biomaterials L: Nanotribology Programme Committee: Chair: Matthias Scherge, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM, Freiburg, Germany Co-Chair: Martin Dienwiebel, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) Roland Bennewitz, INM Leibniz Institute for Materials, Saarbrücken (Germany) Robert Carpick, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (USA) Alfons Fischer, University Duisburg-Essen, (Germany) Julien Fontaine, LTDS, ECL Lyon (France) Joost Frenken, Leiden Institute of Physics LION (Netherlands) Ken’ichi Hiratsuka, Chiba Institute of Technology (Japan) Thomas Lampke, Chemnitz University of Technology, (Germany) Stefano Mischler, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, (Switzerland) Michael Moseler, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (Germany) Martin Müser, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Jülich (Germany) Nicholas Spencer, ETH Zürich (Switzerland) Valentin Popov, Technical University of Berlin (Germany) Somuri Prasad, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque (USA) Ulrich Stolz, Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart (Germany) Philippe Vergne, Lamcos, INSA, Lyon (France) Bernhard Wielage, Chemnitz University of Technology, (Germany) Looking forward to seeing you in Karlsruhe, Matthias Scherge, Martin Dienwiebel Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, Karlsruhe (Germany) The Conference Chairs
